Programs and activities for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts

We offer a variety of Saturday programs available to groups camping with us for the weekend and for day trippers.
A few special programs are also held on Sunday. Most programs are held at
Camp Wheeler
and Camp Somers at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation.
One is held at Winnebago Scout Reservation.
Programs include scheduled classes/programs, self scheduled programs and other programs available upon request.
Most programs are suitable for Cub Scouts and Webelos. A few are for Boy Scouts only.

Self-guided trail which tests various Scouting skills. Group size should not exceed 12. To reserve a guide call Tom at 973-765-9322 x413. Minimum required equipment: pad, pencils, compass, Scout handbook. (Outdoors) Participation patch available - $3.00 |

8 shooting stations – fees include all equipment and instructor. It is strongly suggested that no more than 8-12 shooters be scheduled for any one hour period. Call for available hours. Safety talk and instruction takes approximately 15 -20 minutes for new shooters. It is strongly suggested that no more than 8-12 shooters be scheduled for any one hour period. $15 registration/hour + $3/shooter/hour. Introduction to the use of map & compass, and orienteering. Instruction and practice is held indoors. Each participant needs an orienteering compass with a base plate. Acceptable compasses include: Silva Starter 1‑2-3, Silva Polaris, Four Fold, Polaris Plus, Polaris, Explorer 3, or Map Compass. (Map Compass is on sale at class for $6.00 with 2 weeks notice. Step course to determine your pace followed by a basic compass course that requires measuring distances. (Outdoors) |

Introduction to badge, requirements 1, 2, & 7 completed. Scouts provided with record sheets for remaining requirements. Scouts complete badge as individuals and return with paperwork to complete the badge. Blue card required. $3 per Scout. See the flyer for dates and times.

5 hidden “treasure” chests are yours to find by using GPS units. To reserve guide and units call Tom at 973-765-9322 x413. $100 security deposit is required for each GPS unit. (Outdoors) |

Designed for Cub Scouts and families, but Boy Scouts are welcome too.Each team (we suggest groups of 6-8 + 2 adults.) will go forth to find the “creatures” about the camp. Phone reservations are required and must be followed with official registration form (call Tom Stoddard 973-765-9322 x413). The registration fee is $4.00 per person. Payment to follow within 10 days or reservation will be cancelled. Limited to the first 50 paid registrations (adults, Cubs, siblings) per day/time. An easy 4 or 5 mile walk/hike back into the history of the area (both on and off the camp property). A 26 page guide book can be reserved by calling Tom at 973-765-9322 x413. Designed for Cub Scouts and families, but Boy Scouts are welcome too. Follow the process from tree tapping, sap gathering and syrup making, to pancake making and eating. Registration fee of $30.00 (credit given for 10 participants on day of event) must be paid in advance. Fee for additional participants is $3.00 per adult and child. Actual group size/payment must be made by 2 weeks prior to selected date or available space will be given to other groups. Group size: min. 10 and max 30. Held rain or shine. Dress for the weather. Can be rented (when available) by groups having a trained instructor (proof of training must be received and be approved before a troop’s registration will be processed.). A range contract will be issued which lists specific responsibilities. All equipment is provided. $35.00 per hour (2 hour minimum). (Outdoors) Shooting patch available - $3.00 |

Take home a completed project. Conducted in a heated building at Winnebago Scout Reservation in Rockaway, NJ. $7 per Cub registration.

Wolf – Achievement 5 – “Tools for fixing & building” (birdhouse or feeder)
Bear – Achievement 5b – Make a birdhouse
Webelos – Craftsman requirements 1 and 2 (2 projects using coping or jig saw)
Handyman option 12 – Build a stool
Handyman option 17 – Build a toolbox

Any required group registration fee must be received no later than 10 days (no reminders) from date of phone registration or the reservation will be cancelled. Payment of any individual fees are done on day day of the program.
