What's new for 2012

Lots of new and exiting things are happening this summer at Watchung Day Camp.  Here are some of the highlights

T PaicerNew Camp Director

Please welcome Terry Paicer as our new camp director. Terry has more than 27 years of professional Scouting experience. He is a Eagle Scout who has several years of experience as a camp/program director at Cub Scout day camps. He is the former director at Camp Wheeler and has served as the District Executive of several districts in Patriots' Path Council.

SurvivorSurvivor Watchung

This year's Survivor theme will provide new and exciting opportunities for the boys. Each week will feature a different Survivor location such as the Australian Outback, Samoa, Africa and the Amazon. Sports, games, crafts and challenges will vary each week to coordinate with each Survivor location.

Pre Camp Orientation

Our new orientation program is highly recommended for new and returning campers. It will be held on June 26, 2012 and June 27, 2012. Campers and their parents are welcome either evening to meet the staff and hand in forms. Drop in between 5:30 and 7:00 pm.

Enhanced Bus Service

The M bus to the Raritan Valley district will now run every week.  We have also added an express bus to Hillsborough and Somerville.  Plus, we will have a new bus to Essex county. See the bus schedule for details.

New Programs

We will be adding new programs.  Some are still under development, but already on the list are:

  • NERFAquatic games and challenges - help keep the boys cool during hot summer days
  • NERF action adventure using NERF toys
  • Cubmobiles - gravity powered vehicles
  • Pedal cars
  • Rock throwing range - with lots of targets
  • Survivor challenges

Improved Programs

We are making improvements to some of your favorite programs

  • The waterslide now includes a large splash pool landing area
  • BB GunsExpanded BB gun and archery areas to allow more time for shooting
  • More program variety each week related to different Survivor locations.  Different sports, games, crafts and challenges each week.
  • Live bait for fishing
  • The Buckskin program is now for all Webelos entering 4th or 5th grade
  • The Webelos Sleepover will be held every week on Thursdays. Parents are invited and we will have a campfire, fun activities, and a special T-shirt and patch.
