Eagle's Nest Year Round
Plus Jump Start and Follow-Up Days
First Class and above Scouts can attend Eagle's Nest Year Round at Camp Somers by appointment. Sessions are held one weekend each month - September through June. At Eagle' Nest Year Round, you can have work approved or reviewed for the following merit badges:
- Citizenship in the Community
- Citizenship in the Nation
- Citizenship in the World
- Family Life
- Personal Fitness
- Personal Management
Scouts are encouraged to select no more than three merit badges to work on at Eagle's Nest. Other merit badge counselors' names are available by asking your Scoutmaster for referrals.
Scouts must telephone Mrs. Pat Hawkins no later than 7:00 pm the Monday before the session to make an appointment. All appointments are first come, first served. The events will be canceled if there is not enough interest for any given session. Cost is $5 per merit badge. Parents, please do not call for your Scout. Scouts must make their own telephone appointments.
Meet at the Eagle's Nest trailer located just off the Camp Somers parking lot between the health lodge and the camp office.
Scouts must bring a blue card, signed by their Scoutmaster, to show that the Scoutmaster approves of them working on these badges. The Scout should borrow or buy the merit badge pamphlet. It is recommended that Scouts review the current requirements available at www.scouting.org. They may also print out worksheets (available at www.usscouts.org) for their badges. Scouts can begin badges on their own, but for any requirement that states with the approval of your counselor, do not expect to have the requirement signed off, unless it has been approved by a merit badge counselor. Scouts can use Eagle's Nest Year Round to get approval, then return another time to have the requirement signed off when it is complete.
Don't forget, Scouts can also contact other merit badge counselors to work on these and all other merit badges. Speak with your Scoutmaster to find a counselor in your area.

Mrs. Hawkins is looking for adult volunteers (preferably Scout leaders and merit badge counselors) to assist with two-deep leadership for these evenings.
This is an optional session for Scouts that are registered to attend summer camp at Camp Somers and plan on working on Eagle required merit badges at Eagle's Nest. Scouts will meet with Eagle's Nest Director Pat Hawkins to get counselor approval for requirements. Scouts will get details on how to set up Personal Management time and money charts and how to properly track Personal Fitness exercise programs so these requirements can be completed before summer camp.
Scouts must call Mrs. Pat Hawkins no later than 7:00 pm the Tuesday before the event. Depending upon how many Scouts respond and which badges they are working on, appointments may be scheduled individually or Scouts will be given a schedule of what time their badges are being reviewed. $5 per Scout per badge.
Scouts who attend Camp Somers and have not begun merit badges before July will not be able to complete some of these badges at summer camp, but they can receive partials. If they have started the badge with another merit badge counselor, they may receive approval if contact information for that counselor is provided, and the work can be verified.
This is a special program only for Scouts that have partials on any of the above merit badges from 2013 summer camp at Camp Somers. Scouts must arrange an appointment time before the event by calling Pat Hawkins. Please call before 7:00 pm. There is no fee, but Scouts must pre-register, no walk-ins! Be sure to bring your blue card partial from the summer camp Eagle's Nest.
