ADOPT-A-SITE

WHAT?

The Adopt-a-Site program is a year long maintenance and improvement effort undertaken by a registered Patriots' Path Council Unit. The unit leadership plans a long term improvement project, receives guidance and approval from the Council Property Management Committee, finances the project through unit fund raising efforts or securing donations, and undertakes the project often beginning and completing the project on Beaver Day. High priority projects include campsite pavilions, bulletin boards,
flagpoles and tent outriggers.

WHEN?

During the program year and/or the unit's summer camp period.

WHERE?

Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation, Sabattis Adventure Camp

WHO?

Registered units of the Patriots' Path Council.

BEAVER DAY/ADOPT A SITE PROJECTS

1. Any tent site:
a. Make repairs to platforms and outriggers
b. Make repairs to picnic tables or build new one. Seal all picnic tables
c. Make repairs to bulletin boards.
d. Make repairs to latrine, to include any leaking fixtures, replace toilet seats, toilet paper dispensers, paint interior white and stain exterior brown.
e. If wood chips are available spread chips over eroded areas.
f. Clean out the fire rings and straighten them up.
g. Clear any ditches or culverts leading to site or in site.
h. Remove any trees that are a hazard. (Will be marked by ranger)
i. Build 12'x 30' pole structure that will serve as picnic shelter and storage area for tents, bunks, mattresses, fire buckets, tarps, etc. year round. (See plans at camp) This project would be a large undertaking and will require local building permits and proof of unit's ability to fund such a project).

2. Any Lean-to site:
a. Repair lento's to include new roofs, siding, staining.
b. Repair bunks
c. Provide and install new mattress covers or entire mattresses
d. Make repairs to picnic tables or build new one. Seal all picnic tables
e. Make repairs to bulletin boards.
f. Make repairs to latrine, to include any leaking fixtures, replace toilet seats, toilet paper dispensers, paint interior white and stain exterior brown.
g. If wood chips are available spread chips over eroded areas.
h. Clean out the fire rings and straighten them up.
i. Clear any ditches or culverts leading to site or in site.
j. Remove any trees that are a hazard. (Will be marked by ranger)
k. Build 12' x 20' pole structure that will serve as a picnic shelter (See plans at camp). This project would be a large undertaking and will require local building permits.

3. Any Cabin
a. See specific list that Ranger has regarding each cabin. Some cabins need more rehabilitation than others.
b. Repair bunks
c. Provide and install new mattress covers or entire mattresses
d. Make repairs to picnic tables or build new one. Seal all picnic tables in and around cabin.
e. Clean floors, windows, walls, ceiling
f. Clean wood stove, and flue
g. Install new doors that swing out have panic bars and closures and are keyed to camps lock system. (See ranger for specifics of Doors and hardware required)
h. Install lighted exit lights with emergency lights.
i. Clear all leafs, soil, etc. away from sides of cabin.
j. Clean gutters and roofs of leafs etc.

4. Other camp facilities (see ranger for specifics)
a. Dining hall
b. Trading post
c. Visitor latrine
d. Handicraft lodge
e. Nature lodge
f. Waterfront
g. Archery range
h. Rifle range
i. Shot gun range
j. Health lodge

5. General work that always needs to be done
a. Clearing ditches and culverts
b. Spreading of wood chips in eroded area's
c. Cutting and splitting fire wood
d. Washing windows
e. Staining any structures
f. Cleaning roofs, gutters any buildings
g. Setting up tents, tarps and taking them down again.
h. Draining water system Nov. 1-15 each year.
i. Cutting grass
j. Repair to roads where washed out or rough (especially on inclines)


IMPORTANT NOTE: All projects must comply with standards available at camp. The camp will determine if permits are necessary.
