What is Community C.O.P.E?

Community C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) is a one to three - day training experience, located at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation, that provides a facility for groups to challenge themselves to reach personal goals, and team goals.

What does the C.O.P.E. Course offer?

  • It creates a decision-making process by encouraging the group to perform where there is uncertainty of results.

  • It provides an enlightening and satisfying opportunity to prove to the group that a seemingly insurmountable problem can be overcome.

  • It all happens in an environment of safety, mutual support and encouragement.

Who operates the C.O.P.E. Course?

The Community C.O.P.E. program is operated by the Patriots' Path  Council, BSA. Each course is directed by a certified C.O.P.E. director. All staff are highly trained and safety conscious.

Who can Participate?

Community C.O.P.E. is designed for groups from 8-36 people interested in developing personal confidence and mutual support in a group setting. The Mt. Allamuchy C.O.P.E. course is designed to provide maximum adaptability to each group's special needs and specific interests. The C.O.P.E. Course serves groups from businesses and corporations, as well as groups from schools, churches and civic organizations.

What is Project COPE?

Project COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) is designed for groups interested in developing leadership and team work in a group setting. The Project COPE course is designed to provide maximum adaptability to each group’s specific needs and goals. Project COPE consists of a series of obstacles and challenges designed to foster problem solving and teamwork. All activities are "Challenge by Choice." Participants are encouraged by staff and team members, but not forced to participate in the activities.

Though each COPE course is unique and each person who experiences it has individual objectives, the Project COPE program emphasizes eight major goals;

1. Teamwork: Teamwork is the key that allows a group to meet a COPE challenge successfully. The COPE experience makes it clear that each individual can accomplish more as a member of team, than going it alone.

2. Communication: Project COPE encourages real learning of critical listening and discussion skills important for any group attempting to accomplish difficult tasks.

3. Trust: Participants completing difficult tasks on a COPE course develop trust in COPE staff members, the safety of the course, team members, and themselves.

4. Leadership: Leadership is given and assumed natu-rally, and can be expressed in many ways. Team members will have many opportunities to develop and exercise leader-ship skills.

5. Decision Making: Project COPE requires groups to make decisions by developing one or more solutions to a problem, considering the available resources and alterna-tives, and evaluating the possible results.

6. Problem Solving: Project COPE challenges groups and individuals to develop solutions to interesting problems. Participants test their solutions and evaluate the results.

7. Self Esteem: Meeting the challenges of a COPE

course allows individuals and groups to develop self esteem and encourages them to adopt challenging attainable goals.

8. FUN
